Magic

Growing up, all I ever wanted was to be a princess.

Well, that and a pastor, but that’s another story for a different time.

Belle and Ariel were my favorites.  Many times my dad would pop in a Disney movie and my sister and I would sit in awe of the magic that played about on our television.  We would collaborate tea parties and play pretend, acting out what we had previously seen.  The romance, the fairy tales, the magic…. the lines between reality and make-believe were blurred in such an innocent and romantic way.

One of my good friends in Mobile constantly refers to her relationship with God as a romance.  I love that, and this week I can honestly say I understand what she means.

This week I desperately wanted to go home.  I’ve been homesick and missing my family.  As much as I wanted to hop in my car and make the 14 hour drive north, it just wasn’t doable financially, and I didn’t have a peace about it.

As Spring break started, I kept whispering prayers under my breath for spiritual refreshment, relaxation and increased intimacy with Jesus.  I wanted what David prayed in Psalm 139: 23-24:

“Search me, O God and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.  Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

And almost instantly after I prayed this for the first time, Christ pointed out my constant, idolized worry about finances….

After our adventures in Eufaula, Alabama, Jess and I traveled 7 hours to Lakeland, Florida.  Her sister, Rachel, and my best friend, Nate, both go to school at South Eastern University. We arrived Tuesday night, tired and discouraged.  We didn’t know what the week would hold for us.  We desperately wanted to go to Disney World while we were there, but we couldn’t afford it.  There had been rumors that we would be able to acquire free tickets, but nothing turned up.

So we prayed.

But it wasn’t the “Dear God, please help us go to Disney” type of prayer.

Nope.

It was the “God, we can’t do this financially, but you’re bigger than our finances and we want to see you make the impossible, possible.”
I think that prayer is the only reason for what happened next.disney1

See, God loves to prove himself and show his love.  He loves to test our faith, and be tested as well.  Not as a negative, menacing thing, but as a means of increasing our intimacy with him.

And he did just that in the most beautifully romantic way.IMG_8172

The day before we had planned to go to Disney World we found out we got tickets.

But not just tickets, we got hopper passes, which meant we could go to any of the four parks for free.

Plus free parking.

Plus we were able to bring food into the parks for free.

disney3

I had never been to Disney World before and Christ gave me a free opportunity.

Ithought I would cry.

Throughout the week, meals were paid for, friends blessed us by buying groceries, we even were gifted extra gas money for the trip back….

Disney4

God loves to make the impossible, possible.  But he will never force miraculous impossibility on us… we have to invite him into it.  He can’t catch us if we don’t leap.

Have you leaped lately?

Because after this week, all I want to do is leap.

Disney5

(and YES, we were SO excited to go to disney that we made tshirts the night before 🙂

There’s something about fall that feels like comin There’s something about fall that feels like coming home.

Maybe it’s the cooler mornings, the golden light, or the way life naturally slows down after a busy summer. Whatever it is, this season has always been my absolute favorite. I get giddy just thinking about crisp mornings & cinnamon flavored things, crunchy leaves & flannel anything.

I love that fall invites us to gather around the table a little longer, cheer a little louder at football games, wander through pumpkin patches, and soak up the little moments that somehow become the biggest memories.

As a photographer, I get to witness this season through the eyes of so many wonderful families—and it’s a reminder every year that these moments are worth holding onto.

Tell me... half of you are ready for Fall to be here and half of you aren’t. Which team are you on ?! And what’s your favorite thing about fall? 🍂👇
Our Lina girl turned FOUR over the weekend! Four y Our Lina girl turned FOUR over the weekend! Four years of little Lina. Wow 🥹 She’s everything we prayed she would be & so much more. Lina is joyful, full of confidence, a lover of books , introverted & she’s never met a dog she didn’t like. Loving her is like watching your heart gain legs & curiously explore this big wonderful world. Our golden haired girl is so much fun. She loves “girl dates”, painting her nails, cooking with momma, anywhere there is water & “relaxing with a snack”.

Angelina Joy, watching you bloom & grow is an honor. You radiate hope simply by being exactly who you are. I’m so abundantly grateful that I get to be your momma. 🫶🏻🐾🍓🌼🍭🫖

Young, wild and THREE ! Faith Marvelee you are al Young, wild and THREE !

Faith Marvelee you are all things vibrant, adventurous & you live life to the fullest. You are a living exclamation mark 🥹♥️ You have the biggest heart and love tending to those younger than you (babies). You love the idea of being a momma & are always quick to keep your siblings in line. Yo don’t do anything halfway- you’re ALL IN! If there is music, you’re dancing. If someone needs help, you’re the first to offer assistance. You rarely sit still & if you’re moving, you’re running. You’re my only child who potty trained in one week just because they wanted to! You’re spicy & fun, carefree and tender. I love you, little one. Cheers to three !!

Instagram went rogue & edited a handful of images in a weird black and white. Ooops !

Dave 🤎 What a whimsically adventure we are on. W Dave 🤎
What a whimsically adventure we are on. Who would have thought that this little life would be ours ? The days are long & the years are short. We are laughing through the heartache & seeking out the good. The ordinary joys that fill our chaotic days are what make us grateful. I’m so thankful for you. You’re are always willing to say “yes”, you are the first to volunteer to put a kid (and simultaneously yourself) to bed, you are relentlessly laidback (even if your wife things urgency is necessary at times), you were made for music, you desire nothing more out of life than to live it quietly & work with your hands, you’re witty & loyal & simple & kind.

The more we do life together, the more I see how we are velcroed together. Choosing each other, day by day, has made us whole. Even when the waves of life crash over us & knock the breath out of us, I always come up for air, looking for you. You’re my safe place. You’re home.

You’re so many things… but my favorite thing is that you’re mine. Happy birthday, Dave the babe✨🫶🏻
Well hello there ☀️   2026 has had the sweetest a Well hello there ☀️

2026 has had the sweetest and slowest start.   The kids are praying for snow days, Dave is building garden beds (eeeekkk!!) and I’m caught up in a new book series.

Photography has already been SO fun.  Last week I spent a few days photographing the @restandplay30A retreat in sunshine-soaked 30A Florida.  It was SO fun connecting with the attendees and being refreshed by the precious reminder that rest and play are necessary.

While at the retreat, I felt the nudge to start blogging again.
Who remembers when I used to blog each week?!

At first I brushed it off.  But the more I thought about it, the more I realized how much I missed the connection and creative outlet blogging offered me.  Writing will always be special for me.  I have journals upon journals to prove it.  But writing in a way that allows for me to connect to others is something that I just can’t shake.

So, I’m posting this online, for the whole world to see.  You can expect at least 12 blog posts from me this year.  I’m hoping for more, but let’s not bite off more than we can chew 😉. Everything ranging from my most favorite photography works to everyday life as a momma of four, to gardening and everything in between.  I cannot wait to meet you over at www.annafilly.com/blog/ 👒♥️🌼
