6 Little Blessings in Everyday Life (That May Not Look Like Blessings)

IMG_0820I’ve been self evaluating a lot recently.  Being a naturally introspective person, I find contentment when I’ve sorted through thoughts and feelings, unveiling truth and answering one of the biggest questions that is vocalized in the smallest little word: why?  WHY  does it seem like I’m always in the car with my thoughts?  WHY do I always have all of these stacks of papers on my desk?  I’ve been really trying to take the mundane and “everyday” things in my life and find beauty in them.  But, it can be so hard!  Especially when you feel like there’s always one more thing that needs to get done, or one more person who needs your attention.  I know that I know that the key to living the life you desire is to intentionally cultivate a make space for the things and people you desire IN your life.  But sometimes, there are those little nuisances that you just can’t avoid.  I’ve been intentionally trying to find the blessings in these nuisances and I’m sharing some of my discoveries below!

  1. The travel time to and from your destination: I found myself resenting the drive to get somewhere because I believed that my time could be better spent NOT being behind the wheel trying to get there.  I quickly realized though that if there wasn’t travel time I wouldn’t be left alone with my thoughts, and sometimes, even when we don’t want to be, being alone with our thoughts is the biggest blessing.  Life gets busy.  There are places to go and not enough time in the day to do it all.  I think one of the biggest blessings in this life is that we can’t just instantly arrive anywhere.  Traveling takes time.  Whether it’s to work or to drop the kiddos off at a friends house, alone time in the car is when my mind is able to settle with it’s thoughts and self evaluate.  Realizing how much I need this time has helped me appreciate it so much more.
  2. The people you pass by in the grocery store:  One of my New Years resolutions was to smile more and remember names.  Call me crazy, but I believe those two things can change our world.  Last week, I was running errands when I stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few things.  I was making my way down an aisle when a fellow customer made eye contact with me.  Instead of quickly looking away, or busying themselves with their phone, this customer smiled at me and asked me how I was.  I was so taken aback.  For some reason it was the sweetest sentiment.  Even in the midst of the busy, taking time to acknowledge the faces that we so quickly pass by is one of the most powerful things we can do.
  3. Being the last one to let go in a hug: When you are hired on at Disney World, one of the first things they tell you is never let go first when a child hugs you.  Sounds simple right?  But it is SO powerful.  By letting the other person, let go first, you’re telling them that they can trust you to hold on.  How amazing is that?  Now, I know there are plenty of us who like our personal space, but I think we can all agree that there is nothing quite as sweet as a big ole hug.  Next time you’re hugging someone you love, hold on a little tighter, and let them let go first.  I swear it will bless you AND them!
  4. Those piles of clutter that you just don’t need:  I get overwhelmed by messes. Growing up, I was famous for leaving things in piles around the house, with the promise to “get them later”.  My mom always threaten to throw my clutter away if I didn’t take care of it by our agreed to time.  Many times I’d just move the piles into my own room, allowing them to sit there untouched.  One day, I didn’t make the deadline and mom informed me that she had thrown my clutter away.  At first, I was angry!  But then, I realized I didn’t actually need or want anything that she had trashed.  Sometimes we hold onto things out of obligation, but we actually don’t need them at all.  Taking thirty minutes to “trash or keep” has blessed me and my home so much recently!
  5. Starting My Day with A Plan- They say ” A goal without a plan is just a wish”– and boy are they right!  Starting my day with a pen and a piece of paper is one of the best ways to organize what the day will hold.  I actually have a notebook specifically for my “to do today” lists, and each day I start a new page with a new list.  As soon as my work hours start, I sit down to write.  This helps me prioritize and turn my dreams into goals, and my wishes into realities!  Without this little 5 minute routine, I don’t know where I’d be.  I had NO idea how much of a blessing it was to “plan” until I started doing it.  Planning helps me realize what I DO have time for, and what I don’t have time for!
  6. Pausing to go outside- If you’re anything like me, most of your time is spent indoors, at a computer.  As much as I love my job, I’ve come to realize how essential it is for me to take time throughout my day to simply be outdoors.  Whether it’s going for a walk, reading on the back deck, or parking a little farther away from my destination so I can be outside for a little longer, the sunshine and outdoor air always make me feel a little better!

Our Lina girl turned FOUR over the weekend! Four y Our Lina girl turned FOUR over the weekend! Four years of little Lina. Wow 🥹 She’s everything we prayed she would be & so much more. Lina is joyful, full of confidence, a lover of books , introverted & she’s never met a dog she didn’t like. Loving her is like watching your heart gain legs & curiously explore this big wonderful world. Our golden haired girl is so much fun. She loves “girl dates”, painting her nails, cooking with momma, anywhere there is water & “relaxing with a snack”.

Angelina Joy, watching you bloom & grow is an honor. You radiate hope simply by being exactly who you are. I’m so abundantly grateful that I get to be your momma. 🫶🏻🐾🍓🌼🍭🫖

Young, wild and THREE ! Faith Marvelee you are al Young, wild and THREE !

Faith Marvelee you are all things vibrant, adventurous & you live life to the fullest. You are a living exclamation mark 🥹♥️ You have the biggest heart and love tending to those younger than you (babies). You love the idea of being a momma & are always quick to keep your siblings in line. Yo don’t do anything halfway- you’re ALL IN! If there is music, you’re dancing. If someone needs help, you’re the first to offer assistance. You rarely sit still & if you’re moving, you’re running. You’re my only child who potty trained in one week just because they wanted to! You’re spicy & fun, carefree and tender. I love you, little one. Cheers to three !!

Instagram went rogue & edited a handful of images in a weird black and white. Ooops !

Dave 🤎 What a whimsically adventure we are on. W Dave 🤎
What a whimsically adventure we are on. Who would have thought that this little life would be ours ? The days are long & the years are short. We are laughing through the heartache & seeking out the good. The ordinary joys that fill our chaotic days are what make us grateful. I’m so thankful for you. You’re are always willing to say “yes”, you are the first to volunteer to put a kid (and simultaneously yourself) to bed, you are relentlessly laidback (even if your wife things urgency is necessary at times), you were made for music, you desire nothing more out of life than to live it quietly & work with your hands, you’re witty & loyal & simple & kind.

The more we do life together, the more I see how we are velcroed together. Choosing each other, day by day, has made us whole. Even when the waves of life crash over us & knock the breath out of us, I always come up for air, looking for you. You’re my safe place. You’re home.

You’re so many things… but my favorite thing is that you’re mine. Happy birthday, Dave the babe✨🫶🏻
Well hello there ☀️   2026 has had the sweetest a Well hello there ☀️

2026 has had the sweetest and slowest start.   The kids are praying for snow days, Dave is building garden beds (eeeekkk!!) and I’m caught up in a new book series.

Photography has already been SO fun.  Last week I spent a few days photographing the @restandplay30A retreat in sunshine-soaked 30A Florida.  It was SO fun connecting with the attendees and being refreshed by the precious reminder that rest and play are necessary.

While at the retreat, I felt the nudge to start blogging again.
Who remembers when I used to blog each week?!

At first I brushed it off.  But the more I thought about it, the more I realized how much I missed the connection and creative outlet blogging offered me.  Writing will always be special for me.  I have journals upon journals to prove it.  But writing in a way that allows for me to connect to others is something that I just can’t shake.

So, I’m posting this online, for the whole world to see.  You can expect at least 12 blog posts from me this year.  I’m hoping for more, but let’s not bite off more than we can chew 😉. Everything ranging from my most favorite photography works to everyday life as a momma of four, to gardening and everything in between.  I cannot wait to meet you over at www.annafilly.com/blog/ 👒♥️🌼

There truly aren’t words to describe all that the There truly aren’t words to describe all that the last two weeks held for me & my team as we adventured into the heart of Africa. From sharing the liberating love of Jesus to camping in Zambia, every aspect of our trip has left me grateful, joyful & brimming with hope. To know Jesus is to know peace. To know the perfect love of our gracious daddy God is to know who you are in Him.

I’m so utterly grateful. 🫶🏻🇿🇦

Thank you to my sweet husband for holding down the fort while I was gone. Thank you to my friends who helped with my littles, dropped off food & loved us like family. Thank you to my team for all that we experienced together. Thank you to our mission partners who are literal ANGELS & get to water & care for the seeds that were planted. What a gift, what a joy. I’m sure I’ll spend weeks processing all that transpired. But for now, here are a few of my favorite moments & memories.
